Dr. Antonia E. Foias, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Chair, Williams College
Antonia E. Foias is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology & Sociology at Williams College. She received a PhD in Anthropology from Vanderbilt University in 1996, specializing in Mesoamerica, especially the ancient Maya. Trained in archaeology at Harvard and Vanderbilt, Dr. Foias is investigating the rise and fall of the ancient Maya civilization of northern Guatemala in Central America. Her interests range from the sociocultural evolution of human societies, to economic anthropology, to pottery analysis and technological artifact analyses. She is also the director of the Motul de San Jose Archaeological Project, which offers summer research opportunities for Williams students interested in archaeology
